Control of muscle fibre-type diversity during embryonic development: The zebrafish paradigm
Vertebrate skeletal muscle is composed of distinct types of fibre that are functionally adapted through differences in their physiological and metabolic properties. An understanding of the molecular basis of fibre-type specification is of relevance to human health and fitness. The zebrafish provides an attractive model for investigating fibre type specification; not only are their rapidly devel...
متن کاملTemperature during embryonic development has persistent effects on metabolic enzymes in the muscle of zebrafish.
Global warming is intensifying interest in the physiological consequences of temperature change in ectotherms, but we still have a relatively poor understanding of the effects of temperature on early life stages. This study determined how embryonic temperature (TE) affects development and the activity of metabolic enzymes in the swimming muscle of zebrafish. Embryos developed successfully to ha...
متن کاملAnalysis of the zebrafish proteome during embryonic development.
The model organism zebrafish (Danio rerio) is particularly amenable to studies deciphering regulatory genetic networks in vertebrate development, biology, and pharmacology. Unraveling the functional dynamics of such networks requires precise quantitation of protein expression during organismal growth, which is incrementally challenging with progressive complexity of the systems. In an approach ...

متن کاملExpression pattern of the Sox31 gene during Zebrafish embryonic development
We have identified a novel Sox gene in zebrafish (Danio rerio), Sox31, closely related to mammalian group B Sox genes. The gene is maternally expressed. Zygotic transcription starts at gastrulation, in the presumptive neuroectoderm. Later, expression is restricted to the developing central nervous system, including forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain and spinal cord.
